You are required to view one live theatrical production, and to analyze your experience using course concepts. If attending a live performance is not presently a viable option, I have created a list (Links to an external site.)of online performances (Links to an external site.) and suggested recorded live performances. Many of these videos can be streamed for free using the TAMU library resources. You must either attend a live theatrical event or watch a recorded live performance (rather than a film adaptation of a play) for this assignment.
This assignment is due May 1, but I highly encourage you to complete it as soon as possible. Please write about the performance while it is fresh in your mind.
Watch a live theater performance.
If possible, note the following:
Performance space and/or stage
Sounds and music
Audience demographics
Special note: You won’t be able to get as much information about the physical space or the audience demographics from a video. Consider instead including a brief discussion of how you think your experience of the performance might be different watching it online rather than in person.
As the play gets underway take note of the following:
Scenery
Lighting
Costumes
Acting style
Performance elements
Theatrical conventions
Audience behavior and engagement
Describe your observations of the varying design choices for the production.
What are the designers trying to “say” through their choices?
What does the design communicate about the production concept and major themes?
After watching the production, in its entirety, craft a response to the performance. Use the outline above as a guide.
Rather than trying to cover every element listed, choose a few that you can write about thoughtfully and thoroughly.
The response should be about 1000 words, typed in a standard 12 point font, double-spaced with 1″ margins. Your name, as well as the title of the production, should appear at the top of the first page. You should reflect critical thinking about course themes. Completed assignments should be submitted in doc or pdf format. (I have trouble opening pages files on my office computer.)
