The final memo is a short 1.5-2 page / 300-500 word paper that 1) identifies and briefly explains a social ‘issue’ (Mass Incarceration) in American society based on course materials and 2) proposes a feasible policy solution based on your analysis of the issue. Your paper should develop a coherent rationale for your policy solution based on your understanding of the social issue you identify.
In your rationale and policy proposal, you must incorporate both required readings and the content of class lectures/modules. Failure to demonstrate familiarity with and comprehension of key concepts will result in a grade reduction. Do NOT use verbatim definitions of key concepts from lectures—you must translate course concepts into your own words.
Paper Assignment Policies:
• Final memos are due Friday, May 6 by 12pm.
• Drafts of papers will not be read in advance of the deadline. However, you may come to office hours with any questions or concerns during the writing process.
