For this forum, you will be using the information provided in the “Notes_Janis Stevens Interview” (Links to an external site.) document, as well as knowledge you have acquired from class lectures and reading, to develop an effective promotional campaign for Innovative Tub Solutions.
Please note: You must post your responses to the discussion questions in this forum before you can view classmate posts or reply to them. This is necessary to ensure the originality of student responses to the questions.
Also, note that initial posts have different due dates than reply posts. Please keep track of them, so that you can receive full credit for your work in these discussion forums. As a reminder, for this forum, your 300+ word initial post is due on Sunday, May 1, and your two 150+ word replies to classmate posts are due on the following Sunday, May 8. This will allow sufficient time after people have submitted their initial posts for classmates to read through them and select the two to which they want to reply.
Lastly, please be sure to use standard, grammatically correct English in your post and replies–i.e., complete sentences, no texting abbreviations, etc.–and maintain a professional, courteous tone and demeanor. Also, please use your own words to the greatest extent possible in all of your posts–don’t copy-paste from some other source.
1. First, review the information about Janis’s current promotional activities in the “Notes_Janis Stevens Interview” (Links to an external site.) document.
2. In your 300+ word initial post, start off with a short summary statement about what Janis’s current promotional methods, tools, and activities are, based on your reading. (Note: do not just copy-paste from the “Notes_Janis Stevens Interview” (Links to an external site.) document–express in your own words as much as possible.)
3. Next, review your textbook/lecture notes for Chapters 12, 13, and 14 to refresh your memory regarding the different kinds of advertising, sales promotion, public relations, personal selling, direct mail, digital, etc., promotional methods, and the tools/activities that are associated with each method (e.g., sales promotion as a method makes use of tools like advertising specialties and event marketing).
4. Then, keeping Janis’s current promotional methods, tools, and activities in mind, describe at least three different promotional methods, tools, or activities that Janis is currently NOT using, that you think would work well with her existing promotions and be helpful in increasing awareness of her business, positioning her brand, and gaining traction for her sales. Discuss these three additional promotional methods, tools, activities, etc., in detail and support your claims with information from your reading.
5. Describe the message that you would communicate through each of the three promotional methods, tools, or activities you have identified. (Hint: focus on what makes Janis’s business different as you design the message for each of the methods, tools, or activities that you have chosen so that the message clarifies what you believe her brand represents.)
6. Once you’ve responded to the above prompts, post at least two (2) meaningful 150+ word replies to classmate posts.
Remember, your goal in replying is not just to tell your classmates that you liked what they said, or to comment on their grammar. Rather, it is to help make their recommendations even better–you will not hurt their grade by respectfully and courteously pointing out problems you perceive with their approaches and/or suggesting modifications to them. Some suggestions regarding what to talk about in your reply posts include (but are not limited to):
Did any of the ideas expressed in your classmates’ responses resonate with you? Tell them so, and tell them why.
Did you notice any apparent confusion in their responses to the prompts? Offer your own perceptions and suggestions as clarification.
Were their supporting arguments compelling? Tell them so.
Were their supporting arguments not-so-compelling, or even very off-target? Let them know (respectfully) and tell them why.
You will help both them and yourself by drawing on your funds of knowledge and understanding of the course material to enrich their learning. Just be supportive and polite about it. This is how effective business teams actually collaborate in the workplace.
