Every educator should have a strong educational philosophy on which he/she stands. Your Statement of Educational Philosophy is your foundation for success as a teacher. Therefore, you will write an essay in which you will examine your philosophical beliefs about education. This Statement/paper should be 3 pages, typed and doubled-spaced. It will be based on Building Block 2.11 on page 61 in your textbook and must describe your answers to the following questions:
1. What is the purpose of education? (What goals do you want your students to achieve?)
2. What content should be taught? Why?
3. How will you teach? Why?
4. What are the teacher’s roles and responsibilities?
5. What are the student’s roles and responsibilities?
6. Which of the educational philosophies discussed in Chapter 2 is most comparable to your educational philosophy? Explain how and why.
7. Which of the educational philosophies discussed in Chapter 2 is least comparable to your educational philosophy? Explain how and why.
Criteria for assessment of this paper:
—Inclusion of responses to each question
—Quality of responses to each question
—Connection to educational philosophies discussed in the course text
—Use of correct grammar, spelling, and writing conventions
—A minimum of three pages in length (approximately 900 words)
